The Tassie Trip North

Bothwell heritage building

Having partially packed and organised the car over the past few days, I added the final bits and pieces and  managed to get out of the house more or less at my anticipated time, with most tasks crossed off my list.

The drive from Hobart to Devonport was much as usual, although Maps instructions did not concur with the big blue road signs that made sure I was not going to miss the correct location for boarding the ferry! The roadworks were not too tedious - just those near the Bridgewater Bridge, but that was to be expected. The road over the top was a pleasant drive once I lost the hire car driving at a ridiculously slow speed. My first stop was at Bothwell, for a comfort stop (I definitely rate the Bothwell public toilets: clean and hot water to the handbasins!) and lunch while admiring the lovely heritage building of that town.

Pine Lake

Then onward and upward, driving past the remnants of the snowfall of a couple of days ago - the shaded higher slopes still showed a dusting of white - to Pine Lake and a short break to do one of Tassie's Great Short Walks.

The Meander River at Deloraine

Another comfort stop at Deloraine and a quick look at the very picturesque river. I arrived at the ferry terminal with plenty of time to spare but needed assistance with the cardboard 'room key' - there is clearly a particular technique to be mastered.

Cabin 8032 - with porthole
The cabin certainly is not luxurious, but it is clean and private. I am grateful that the winds of the past 2 days have abated and BOM is suggesting that seas will not be ridiculously rough.
